GRANDIA 2 (HD COLLECTION)
Description :
Grandia II is a role-playing video game developed by Game Arts originally for the Dreamcast console as part of their Grandia series. Initially released in Japan in August 2000 by Game Arts, the game was later made available in English for North America the following December, and in Europe in February 2001, with both releases published by Ubi Soft. The game was later ported to the Sony PlayStation 2, where it was released worldwide throughout 2002, and later for Microsoft Windows exclusively in North America and Europe later that year. An enhanced port, based upon the Dreamcast version and entitled Grandia II Anniversary Edition was released on August 24, 2015 on Steam and GOG.com. A high-definition remaster of the game was released in North America and Europe on August 16, 2019, together with one of the original, for Nintendo Switch; an associated update for the Windows PC Anniversary Edition was released on October 15, 2019. GungHo Online Entertainment clarified that a Japanese release of the remasters will follow in the future.
The game was developed by many of the same staff members who worked on the original Grandia, including music composer Noriyuki Iwadare but was designed around the idea of creating a more "mature" product than the previous title, as well as the first in the series to feature fully three-dimensional graphics.
The game is set in a fantasy world thousands of years after a battle between Granas, the god of light, and Valmar, the god of darkness, nearly destroyed the planet until Valmar was split into pieces and scattered across the land. In the aftermath of the battle, the Church of Granas has led humanity to prosperity by spreading the word of good, but when a young mercenary named Ryudo is charged to protect a songstress from the church named Elena, their journey reveals that the church's history, as well as the history of the world, is not all it seems.
While the original Dreamcast version of the game received a largely positive response from critics in Japan and the West, its later ports to the PlayStation 2 and PC were typically seen as inferior due to a combination of technical shortcomings and other high-profile games released during the transition.

Story :
THE LEGEND OF THE "BATTLE OF GOOD AND EVIL"
When the world was still young and yawned at every dawn's waking, Granas,
the God of Light, came. All was bathed in the holy light of Heaven. Thus,
those were the days of marvels.
Yet, there were those who sought the power to resist Granas, they found
power in Valmar, the God of Darkness. Power to release the energy bound up in
life. Power to unmake the world.
Thus, in those days, they made war.
The fighting continued endlessly, until the Sword of Granas pierced the
infinite darkness of Valmar. The mighty blow from Granas not only smashed
Valmar to pieces, but also carved several ugly scars in the very surface of
the planet.
These are the Granacliffs that survive even to the present; scars in the
land.
The reason why we call this earth the "Cursed Land."
Ryudo is a young Geohound, working odd jobs with his companion Skye. Known
for his ability to do just about ANY task, he quickly built a reputation as an
efficient workhorse. Willing to do what no one else wished to.
Bouncing from job to job in order to keep the gold flowing in, Ryudo
accepts, albeit grudgingly, a job involving the Church of Granas, in the
village of Carbo.
Once in Carbo, a beautiful voice carries on the wind, singing hymns to
Granas. Intrigued, Ryudo enters the nearby church and finds a Songstress,
Elena, practicing hard for an upcoming ceremony.
It is from here that Ryudo accepts his role, bodyguard to the Songstress
Elena.
And so two strangers head out on what seems to be a simple assignment...
Characters :
RYUDO
¯¯¯¯¯
Ryudo's a Geohound, a type of mercenary who's not looked on with much esteem
by society. His companion is a (bigmouthed) bird named Skye, who accompanies
him on adventures and jobs. Early in the game, Ryudo accepts a proposal to
escort the Songstress of Granas, Elena, to the St. Heim Cathedral, and from
there a bunch of hijinx ensue. He's a sword user and physically strong, and
his stats are pretty even, too.

ELENA
¯¯¯¯¯
The Songstress of Granas, she's got a gentle heart and is always willing to
help those in need. Although compassionate and altruistic to her core, she's
still pretty naive and hasn't seen the world beyond her own doorstep, for
the most part. After events at Garmia Tower, she joins Ryudo, who escorts her
to St. Heim's cathedral. She is gifted in the powers of curative (surprise!)
nature, and comes with a mana egg that specializes in such things.

MILLENIA
¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯
A strange woman who's one-third evil and one-third good. The other third is
saved for flirting with Ryudo, who she's attracted to 'cause he's the only
person who's ever treated her kindly. Well, Ryudo could care less for the
most part, but...whatever works. She's a great mage and comes with a Chaos
Egg that has great elemental properties; to boot, she's able to learn some
new skills after defeating...ahem, certain storyline bosses.

ROAN
¯¯¯¯
A boy with a pleasant demeanor, and also an apparent runaway, most people he
mets take an immediate liking to him. Except Ryudo, but oh well. He can be a
bit headstrong at times but is also simultaneously capable of highly rational
thought, and is very responsible (see: later in game). He uses knives which
aren't very powerful, and his defense/HP lack -- but he's got great skills!
In fact, he gets more than anyone -- some just aren't usable later on.

MAREG
¯¯¯¯¯
A beast-man who initially attacks the party (and later apologizes), he's on a
quest to restore his village's honor by slaying the demonic person who tore
up the place. He's tall, strong, and is a stabbing machine with his battleax;
thus, he is a threat to be reckoned with. He's got more HP than anyone, which
always makes him handy 'round the battlefield.

TIO
¯¯¯
An automata (robo-person) created during the Battle of Light and Dark, her
original encounter with the party doesn't go as planned. Still, she joins up
when duty calls for another ally, perfectly fitting in as the last ally that
joins up. She's got great speed and skills, which makes her a formidible one
on the battlefield.
